Welcome to Pragmatist Coaching

Professionally Accredited Coaching That’s Grounded in the Real World.

Pragmatist Coaching was setup with one simple objective in mind - to provide the best possible coaching for you.

My values are simple but effective. Put simply, I do the right thing for you at every step.

This underpins not only my coaching, but also the consulting offered through the parallel Pragmatist Consulting brand. One set of values, two complementary offers.

For my coaching,  this means I follow the EMCC Code of Ethics, continually research and explore ways to enhance my service, and prepare in a professional manner for every coaching session with every coachee. I also hold ILM7 accreditation, underpinning my commitment to delivering at the highest level.

As the Pragmatist name suggests, I ground everything firmly in the real world because that’s where your challenges exist today, and that’s where your coaching journey starts.

I have the pleasure and honour of helping you candidly explore that reality and identify paths to help you achieve the objective that you’re focussed on.

The Pragmatist Approach

At Pragmatist Coaching I assist you as you work towards your objective. My role is to be the coach, sounding board, mentor, or advisor, that you need. The way I do this varies coachee by coachee, session by session. I maintain a good working knowledge of coaching best practice, and determine how to pragmatically apply this to the flexible framework that I tailor to you as you progress. While I always have an overarching structure to my coaching, this allows it to flex and adapt depending on your needs and progress.

My coaching is completely centred on you. I take care of the process so that you can focus on truly thinking and working through the challenge facing you.

I follow the same simple 4 step process with every coachee:

1. Hold an 30 minute no obligation introduction call to understand what you’d like to work on
2. Plan your coaching journey
3. Hold the coaching sessions, adjusting the plan as we go
4. Discuss the outcome and the next steps you will take to make the most of your coaching.

If your coaching is part of a corporate engagement, I will of course meet with the business sponsor to understand the business objective your coaching will enable.

During the planning step I consider a number of different aspects. These include:

- Frameworks and tools

- Your style and needs

- The likely frequency of sessions

- Cultural considerations

- Business objectives (if your coaching is part of a corporate engagement)

To ensure that you’re seeing value and making progress towards your goal, I seek feedback after every session and continuously adjust my approach.

Finally, it’s important for you to know that when I coach you, you can be confident that our conversations are completely confidential and won’t be repeated to anyone else.

What should I expect?

Working with a coach for the first time can feel like a jump into the unknown.

When you ask me to coach you, I make the process as clear and simple as possible and make this 3 part commitment to you:

- I’ll listen without judgement,
- I’ll bring clarity to your thinking
- I’ll allow you to confidentially work through the situations and desires that you’d like to explore

Regardless of which coaching option is right for you, the principles and style remain the same;

1. We have a 30 minute introduction call to help me understand your objective and help you understand if you’d like to work with me. If this goes well, we schedule your coaching sessions.

2. I always work to do the right thing for you. The person at the heart of a coaching engagement is you. My role is to help you reach the outcome you want by doing the right thing at every step. It’s that simple.

3. Each session is 90 minutes long. This lets the conversation and rapport flow naturally in a relaxed way and avoids the feeling of time pressure.

4. I manage the process. This lets you focus on the subject under discussion.

5. There’s energy. No-one wants to spend time in a dry, dull way. I bring energy to my coaching to help you feel more positive and relaxed.

6. I may use some exercises or tools to help you make progress. If I think these are needed, I’ll ask you to complete them between sessions so that you don’t spend valuable coaching time on them.

7. It’s professional and ethical. I’m a member of the Association of Coaching and conduct my coaching in accordance with their code of ethics.

Our Services

  • Supportive business executive Coaching preparing for a new business challenge

    Executive Coaching

Business leaders have to guide their businesses through change and, in some cases, transform themselves or businesses in some way to meet a new challenge.

Whether it’s acting as a sounding board, coaching you through personal change, or helping prepare you to lead your team through change, my deep experience of this coupled with my consulting expertise uniquely position me to help you with this.

  • Coaching and mentoring for career development

    Career Development

As we progress in our careers it can be invaluable to have access to an experienced, independent guide to support us through the transition.

Blending coaching and mentoring as required, I can help you successfully make the change regardless of whether this into a board position, an SLT role, leadership of a change programme, or a first management role.

  • Employee looking to change career with business coaching

    Career Change

We sometimes find ourselves facing a change in direction or a significant next step which we’re not fully prepared for. This can give rise to a number of different reactions and emotions.

Having been through this and helped others successfully do the same, I’ll listen to you explain your situation and provide support and guidance throughout the change.

Clients find this far more effective than simply providing a 10 point guide and leaving you to it.

Because I tailor my coaching to you, please contact me if the offerings above don’t seem to fit your need.
